Service didn't really require all the cars to be opened, but the TA didn't want to run a single married pair unit in passenger service so it ran 4 car trains with the end cars closed and the middle cars open. Unlike the older married pairs which has only one compressor and one MG set per 2 cars, the Fkln Shtl R 68s are single cars containing all components in both cars so they can be run as 2 car trains. |
