You have to look at the reason *why* you are making the text bold. If you are using it to bring attention to something, you are supposed to use <strong>. If you only want to make the text bold for syntactical reasons (ie: html versions of linux man pages) <b> is to be used.Similarly, you would use <em> to emphasize something, but <i> to italicize something (as in a book title). One main beneficiary of these extra tags is screen readers. A blind person does not care whether you made the text bold, 3 sizes larger and have Red Helvetica text. They only care that you are trying to bring attention to it, and using the <strong> or <em> tags helps in that regard. |
