Actually..it was a victim of "urban planning" gone wrong.The entire Myrtle Avenue ROW was tapped for "Model Cities" apartment housing that was only partially built... The El was to be "rebuilt" with newer cars..but the bottom dropped out of city funds..the state pulled out..the "developer" pulled out..but the EL was removed anyway,replaced by the B54 bus. I still say its a shame that our el lines were removed without replacement..to this very day,there is a gap in service in the middle of BEDFORD..Navy Yard..and so on with the MTA making NO PLANS[if you believe SBS is an replacement shame on you]to build in Brooklyn..or any other boro except Manhattan. |
