in reality, after Mayor Hylan left office, the concept of the IND changed from being competition for the BMT to a possible extension of existing BMT lines.

But long before unification they wanted to massively extend the BMT/IRT Flushing and Astoria Lines (map).

And we see here that the later version is more anti-BMT in places.
