You're mistaken on the pre-Christie Brightons. Brighton via bridge was Red-Green whether it was a local or an express. In the early-mid '60s I used to hang out at the old Matts (Ex-lax) mansion property next to the r-o-w north of Albemarle Road in the evening. The first Brighton Local via Bridge passed that point a few minutes after the last express went by the same point. Both had red-green markers. The local before had red-red. This told me that the Daily News was likely delivered to the newsstands at E18th and Church and I took off.

The Brighton Locals via tunnel were white-white in both directions to their ORIGINAL terminals, which (IIRC) were Coney Island and 57th Street when the Brighton Express terminated at Times Square. Any terminal for the Brighton Locals other than those two were red-red, which is how they ended up red-red n.b. and white-white s.b.

The 4th Avenue Locals were traditionally green-green (and didn't go to CTL until 1961). Green-yellow was Culver-Nassau, which became a full-time shuttle in 1959. So I guess green-yellow was available for 4th Avenue local then. What happened to markers after Christie Street I have very little knowledge of.
