Q About the Meadowbrook Parkway and the LIRR |

Posted by Mitch45 on Fri Mar 4 12:41:48 2011 Driving northbound on the Meadowbrook this morning, I spotted a very rusty, very graffitied steel railroad bridge overpass about 25-50 feet off the right side of the roadway. This was located near the huge garbage recycling plant near Roosevelt Field. The overpass is at an approximately 45 degree angle to the Meadowbrook roadway.My question: which LIRR line used this overpass? At first I thought it was part of the right of way that once connected West Hempstead to Mineola but that doesn't seem right. Was it part of the spur that once went to the area where Mitchel Field is today? Or something in that area? Any info is appreciated. |
