My guess is the HEP gen. got overloaded ( as they seem to do even in cold weather) but this time the circuit breakers for the 4-phase 480 VDC did not trip ( maybe they froze up) . That would lead to a meltdown of the gen. and lots of flames. It would be a miracle if the Beech Grove shops could rebuild her. Most likley they will strip her down for parts , if there is anything left usable. Has anyone spotted one of the P40 rebuilds on the Late-for-sure LTD? |
