I had a relative that also liked the subway, and I "hid" my liking of it until about 1990 or so. At that point, we decided to "ride every line at least once" completing the map of riding every line (not at the same time). I finished that about 1992 or so, when I completed the Far Rockaway stub end. (Funny, I had been to Rockaway Park by the mid 1980's, but never the Far Rockaway end, and with that small segment, my map was "complete".My parents were aware of it by the end, but at the beginning, we would say we were "going to the movies" or something, and instead would be riding the subway up to the Bronx or someplace, lol. That even started when I was younger, and we would say to my mother that we were going to the movies at the local movie theater, but instead, would take the subway to some far off movie theater....My mother probably would have killed me had she known I was "alone" (without adults) taking the subway through East New York, etc, lol. |
