2010 SEPTA MID-WINTER TRIP - Preliminary Info |
|
Posted by Jersey Mike on Thu Nov 18 10:40:34 2010 Alright, its almost Thanksgiving so I wanted to release the preliminary information on the 2010 SEPTA Mid-Winter Trip. Yes this is the 10th annual trip and as such we will be breaking new ground with two new routes. The date that I am going with so far will be the Monday after Christmas (December 27th) which has the added benefit of allowing an post-trip evening programme consiting of the the West Jersey Chapter NRHS's annual movie night. Here is the trip as I envision it so far. View 2010 SEPTA Mid Winter Trip in a larger map Thanks to Google Maps I know the trip will be about 90 miles in length and its focus will be the surface city division trolley lines. I know people are going to whine and moan about the Silverliner IIs, but I have some very good reasons for this year's choice of theme. 1) Last year we did a VERY RRD centric trip. Even though we didn't see many (amy?) S-IIs it was still an RRD trip and the mission of the M-WT is to "mix it up". Also even if I added more RRD to this trip there is no guarantee we'd actually see any like last year. 2) The Silverliner IIs will have several more dedicated charter trip. After participating in the last one I determined that most people will or will have already had ample opportunity to ride the S-IIs in a more proper setting. 3) The Silverliner V's should be running with increasing frequency for the foreseeable future. There is no need to design a trip around new equipment. We'll have plenty of occasion to binge on the S-Vs on future M-WTs. Ok, that being said here is the Route. R1 to Eastwick Walk to the Rt 36 Eastwick Loop Rt 36th to 30th St Transfer to Rt 10 Rt 10 to Giarad Ave Transfer to Rt 15 Rt 15 to Broad Street BSS Express to Fern Rock BSS Express or Broad Ridge Train to Downtown Lunch Downtown MFL to Frankford Terminal Rt 66 to a point on Frankford Ave *NEW ROUTE* Walk to Torresdale R7 stop R7 to 30th St Extended Photo Session at 30th St NJT ACL Train to Lindenwold *NEW ROUTE* PATCO to Center City and back (or whervere one wishes to get off) I haven't bothered with the schedules yet, but the trip will begin with the an outbound R1 airport that departs between 9 and 9:30 AM. Most everything else should be headway until the inbound R7. That part of the trip is subject to change if we are unable to reliably catch an ACL train before it gets dark. Lunch might be on the later side, close to 1pm. I am being a bit ambitious with the walking transfers here. The Eastwick to Eastwick Loop talk is about .7 miles and has been done before in a previous M-WT. The second walking transfer between the Rt 66 and R7 at Torresdale is only about 2500 feet so I think that should be manageable. You'll notice this is different on the map because I just realized how close the Torresdale stop was. Anyway feel free to give me your thoughts and changes can be made in necessary. |
