Welcome once again to that nagging question "Is this legal, is this ethical?"I won't take on the first, not being a lawyer nor familiar with these issues. As to the latter, I'd say yes. First of all, this wealth is "outsourced". It isn't doing what American wealth should be doing (and is NOT) and that's creating American jobs. (So much for the republican mantra of"job creators" that's simply a dogwhistle for the interests of idle rich, who do not utilize their position to enhance the general welfare, but only produce continuing wealth for themselves for foreigners and while evading taxes as well.)Then he went and put this all in his wife's name, so suddenly it's hers, to evade legal issues I would guess, that bring us back to the former question. |

How do you know what this money is or is not doing? The fund is a "high-yield" fund, which is the polite name for "junk bond" fund, which is the impolite name given to a fund that loans moneys to companies that are poor financial risks. These companies may be in the US or may be elsewhere.By the name of the fund, I'd suggest that they are actually in the business of saving jobs by extending a lifeline (albeit an expensive one) to companies that would otherwise have to close down. |

Must've missed that part, they only talked about disclosure regarding his ethics filings, not necessarily if he gave incorrect data on his tax returns. The OP says "Only the Romneys' 2010 tax records, released under political pressure earlier this year, confirmed their continuing control of the company." Assuming that, since his company was mentioned on the 2010 tax returns, it has probably been mentioned on every year's applicable tax returns, why would you think that the IRS wouldn't have already conducted an investigation if there was any chance that he had given incorrect data? It seems the IRS has always known about this company, it's only the public that is just finding out the additional details now. |

But why would the fact that he has publicly released his 2010 tax return, containing information that has already been known to the Federal Gov't for many, many years, all the sudden bring up a question of criminality/tax dodging? If the IRS suspected anything, they could certainly act on it. Nothing has changed. |

Let's allow those who know what the actual applicable laws are figure it out. if there's something here, may be be indicted on the appropriate charges. This thing is early on, best we can do now is to permit investigators to investigate. |
