"Downtown" by Petula Clark was enjoying its second week at the top of the charts when I came into this world on the snowy evening of February 12, 1965.Her dominance would be short-lived, however, as The Beatles' "Eight Days a Week" took the top spot the following week. |

Cab Calloway was still around in the video era. A lot of the greats of the jazz era were around in my memory. My parents used to like to watch Louis Armstrong on TV in the '50s, but when I started to listen to his stuff from the '20s and '30s it was a whole different story. |

But he did kinda fall off the top of the charts by the 1950's. He kept going though strong and steady and kudos to the "Blues Brothers" for making him a centerpiece. He was always an elegant act. |

And on the day my dad was born, "The Glow-Worm" by the Victor Orchestra was #1. To put it in better context, the 1400 series BUs were spanking new, the BRT Standards were a gleam in Bill Menden's eye, and the Malbone Street wreck was more than a decade in the future. |
