THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NON-RELIGIOUS PRAYER! It doesn't matter which religion it is. The government should not favor religion to irreligion (or vice versa). Not making any comments regarding fasting and prayer does not favor irreligion. |

How is St. Peter's Church part of the history of what happened there? The cross was only there because they needed a place to keep it. It should stay there permanently. Given that people believe that Park Place is part of "Ground Zero" (see the mosque), then Church between Barclay and Vesey is "Ground Zero" enough to host the cross. |

Posted by Spider-Pig on Thu Jul 28 01:15:30 2011, in response to Re: Those atheists are at it again, posted by The Silence on Thu Jul 28 00:07:17 2011. A religion is a system of beliefs in a supernatural order that controls the universe. Atheism is the lack of said belief.Atheism is the only belief system which is actually based in facts. The others either ignore facts, or mold some made-up belief around known facts. Whether or not there is a god is an answerable question, just as we can answer the question of how old the universe is (to within a certain accuracy). That was once impossible. We can't assume that something that we can't figure out now can never be figured out, given an increasing level of knowledge of the mysteries of the universe. The problem with "proving god doesn't exist" is that you can't just come up with a baseless assertion and then expect someone to disprove it. It is reasonable to assume that that which can't be proven does not exist, or actually is highly unlikely to exist. Or as Bertrand Russell stated: Many orthodox people speak as though it were the business of sceptics to disprove received dogmas rather than of dogmatists to prove them. This is, of course, a mistake. If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time. |

I haven't been to church in over 5 years, I have no "your" Jesus.I don't care what "your sister in law" worships, nor do I care if what she worships is "higher or lower" than what I worship, as her fictional entity can do whatever it wants to my fictional entity.I also don't care what "Congregationalist or Dutch reformed" think either. And they can worship any "Jesus" they want, that is the right given in this country. As for Obama, my opinion stands, he worships whatever is convenient at the time. A Community organizer needs to be a part of a Black supremest sort of church he belonged to, as that's what he was doing at the time. Today, while he doesn't really care about religion (which is fine), it suits him to occasionally put on the illusion like he does care. Many presidents have done that, not just Obama. |
