Same thing happened in the UK last year. Everytime I post a UK story people want to claim it's not the US, yet it always follows. |

I walked home from school as young as 6. So it's not neglect. It's also none of our business. That's a parent's call. Butt out. |

I clearly recall walking to and from school in the first grade, at age six...I'm not understanding why this is "child neglect". |

Well, the boy's older brother walks with the son to and from school. That area of "South Jordan" must be VERY safe, though! Perhaps the child is well trained.I...can't see how it's "child neglect" though. The mother is sending the child to school, and the boy has a place at home. I may not agree with her point of view, but I don't know either of them so what can I say? Of course, with the "van following him" she should really reconsider this for the safety of her kids. Wouldn't want one of them to be kidnapped and such. |

She thinks like I do.This is the type of woman I would marry. That kid is gonna be much more mature, fit and prepared for challenges than others thanks to his mother's outlook. He will also be more observant, aware and responsible. Walking also gives kids some time to themselves to think about stuff. |

At the age of 9 I knew the subway better than my mom did. My mom used to shop at Bloomingdales and sometimes took me with her. She did not always pay attention - saw a train waiting at a platform and tried to run into it with me in tow. She was shouting "Is this the Astoria train?" while trying to pull me into it - I froze on the platform and pulled her back preventing her from getting on. Doors closed - train left and she was pissed till another passenger told her - Astoria is DOWNSTAIRS. |

I don't think that it was a good idea on her part, but I don't think that it's criminal either. That looks like fairly busy street with higher speed traffic an no sidewalks. They have to walk on the shoulder. I wouldn't want my kids walking on that street at any age. |

I guess that is because some sort of pedophilia virus epidemic has spread throughout the country turning people into pedophiles. The epidemic has spread such that up to 95% of the adult population is now infected... </sarcasm mode>Pedophiles existed throughout the decades - the only difference is that now we teach our kids to be afraid of their own shadows! |

Salt Lake County includes Salt Lake City. But the rest of the county is heavily Republican. Though the Wikipedia article indirectly suggests that maybe the mayor of South Jordan is a non-partisan office. It's like saying that Staten Island is Democratic because NYC is. South Jordan has a council-manager form of government. The council, the city's legislative body, consists of five members and a mayor, each serving a four-year term. The council sets policy, and the city manager oversees day-to-day operations. As of 2010, the mayor is W. Kent Money, and the city manager is John H. Geilmann. The city council meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 PM.[55] Utah is one of the country's most Republican states[56] and South Jordan follows Utah's trend with only Republican elected officials. Jason Chaffetz, a Republican, represents South Jordan as part of Utah's 3rd congressional district of the United States House of Representatives. Chris Buttars, a Republican, represents South Jordan as part of the 10th Utah Senate District in the Utah Senate. Merlynn Newbold, a Republican, represents South Jordan as part of 50th Utah House District of the Utah House of Representatives.[57] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Jordan,_Utah |
