In LA it's because they are seen as unfair to the working man/woman. And yes there are lots of places as bad or worse, but they aren't making hundreds of millions in profit like Walmart. If Walmart were to unionize they would be welcome in LA. |

WalMart's almost always look like a bomb went off in the store. You rarely see that at Target. The clientele is also better at Target.I agree that there are some Walmarts that look like crap, while I have never seen that at Target, even ones located in questionable areas (outside of NYC). What are the Targets like in Brooklyn and /or The Bronx? I haven't been in them as of yet...but I do know that Walmarts in places like Airmont, N.Y. (between Suffern and Spring Valley), North Brunswick, N.J., and Bristol, Pa. are all hell holes. But I have also been to very nice Walmarts (White House, N.J. and Kearny, N.J. Yes, believe it or not Kearny is a well-run store!). |

That's just the point. Target and stores like Kohls have the same quality merchandise, most of which is made in the same countries for the some poor wages. Yet Walmart, arguably more profitable than the other two and yet Walmart is constantly singled out and vilified by the left. The irony is that Sam Walton was the first major retailer in the US to adopt Frederick Demming's principles of TQM - the centerpiece of which is employee involvement in every phase of managing the company. I just don't see the justification for the attacks other than the fact that they now know how to spell Walmart. |

Goodlatte presentation on the subject. As with a lot of things at the TA, the Demming method sounds good in principle, but it is very hard to implement it across the whole organization. |

You can get a variety of name brand products from Walmart that are the some quality as products sold in the other stores.Somehow Walmart has the purchasing power to get these products and even limited edition products that are EXCLUSIVE to Walmart. I experienced this while working for a food manufacturer that sold a variety of products at Walmart. I think it has something to do with the fact that they don't have to be responsible for products that don't sell or something like that? |

What does it benefit the organization to send middle managers to a TQM course, when their superiors don't buy into it? Senior Staff came up through the ranks and most were resistant to change. But NYCT was required by the Feds to begin a TQM program so several middle managers were sent to the classes. I was lucky. I took the class with Professor Fred Brodzinski, who I find extremely effective in getting the message out. In any event, I've tried to bring some TQM principles to my own little 'empire' but most would rather be told what to do, how to do it and then let them do it. Hate to say civil service mind set. |

If their stores looked more presentable, maybe Walmart could win the hearts of a lot of the left though.Stores outside the metro area may look great...but the ones around here look terrible. Also, there are legitimate traffic concerns about a Walmart by Gateway Center Mall...especially with a new housing tract having just opened behind the mall. Can that area support another big box store? The Brooklyn Terminal Market would be a better choice...not off the highway, but Foster Avenue is wide at that point. |

Walmart groceries in CT have the full nine yards, fresh produce and all. The produce isn't cheaper than regular groceries but it's fresh. I haven't looked at the meat in a long time; last time was last year and much of it had ingredients listed, as it was brined.
