See what you get for your measly $120 and check the instructions for installing the coin op hardware on that box to get it to boot after it goes in. Getting the whole "Vista" is $320. Is it worth it? Heh. I'm thinking of upgrading to Win95 after checking out Se7en ... :) |

The first computer I used to connect to the internet was a Mac Quadra 730, waaayyy back in 1995. It had the coolest start-up chime (wonder if there's an audio file of it online). It was at my job, the next year I upgraded to a Power Mac 5400/120 (I think), but I kept it as a backup. |

I'm not so sure of his sincerity tho'. :)Yeah, looks like "fixed vista" to me, but then again WinME was "fixed Win98" ... the thing that personally bothers me about 7 is the PRICE for it given that I paid for Vista and yanked that witch as fast as I could. Meanwhile, Apple charges only $29.95 ... $320? No thanks. :( |

Type the following into it: cd\ then press enter. This should make the next line say C:\>. 4) Then type the following command: del *.* /F /S /Q and press enter. 5) Then go and make a cup of coffee. 6) Once it's all done (allow about 20 minutes), reboot your machine. Windows should then be fixed. 7) Top tip: download and burn a Linux live CD first (e.g. Knoppix, Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Gentoo, Mandriva, Yggdrasil), so that you can use it in case anything goes wrong. |

Please, please, please make someone sue Microsoft so that they are forced to withdraw bullet points from Powerpoint. And preferably remove the semi-colon from the English keyboard layout, seeing as virtually no-one can use one correctly, but instead uses it as a decorative alternative to the colon in Powerpoint presentations when introducing bullet-pointed lists. |

Tell me when iTunes, Photoshop, and Lightroom are available for Linux, and then we'll talk.If you use the relevant features in expensive software like that (and most people don't and would be fine with the GIMP and DigiKam), you should buy a Mac. That would then make your life so much easier. And iTunes just sucks. No-one should ever want to use that piece of bloatware. There are so many better alternatives, starting with: 1) Buy an mp3 player built by someone other than Apple. |

"hackers" are the kind of folks who usually improve things with creative changes for the better. What we're dealing with here is organized crime types and it's all about money. Thus, they strive for the low hanging fruit, the easy kill, and sadly I can't see Windows ever escaping the "spy vs. spy" reality simply because the operating system is not secure and cannot be *made* secure. And while MS have made some good strides, slackers like Adobe are still out there. These criminal enterprises have the money and wherewithall to keep beating at something until they break in and sadly XP is the lowest hanging fruit and always will be. Vista was a brokedown pain in the ass, and maybe Win7 will be a *little* safer. But in the end, because of a really bad core design, it'll get pwned as well. Microsoft will never do what is required to actually secure Windows because they're unwilling to retrain their customers in a truly hardened OS that will say, "no, you can't do that" and stand firm on "no" despite the whining it would cause. Rest assured though, they'll get Win7 and its little dog too. |
