I would've stayed if I had not anything to do that evening cause I actually had til about five almost, cause I left when we were on the 6 and got to the White Plains Metro North station at around 11:45, but since the trip would've gone too far from making any connections to something heading towards NYC, I would've been screwed. But hopefully next time I'll stay. But for the time I was there, it was really good. Had a good BxM4C ride, then a good one on the 6, then the Merto North trip to Grand Central was pretty good for me too. |

Well, that's why I loved Dante's photos so much, as many were on the J line, also my favorite line... But that aside, those are some great photos no matter where. I think it's one of the greatest tributes to try to remember him on a positive note...through his photos....not on the horrible tragedy aspect of this whole thing.BTW, I can't place the last photo, where did he take that one on the J line, I don't know why I am drawing a total blank, as I thought I knew every inch of that line. |

Posted by orange blossom special on Sun Apr 8 23:16:01 2007, in response to Re: Some bad news (Re: Surgery III), posted by orange blossom special on Sun Apr 8 11:21:20 2007. It's a reminder. Sometimes if you pass on something, or you take a trip, you get into a complacency that you'll come back and you can do something the next time, or you'll pass and meet someone the next time your around. I got into that complacency sometimes thinking maybe they'll be some sort of trip or event, and I'd make it around to meet some of you.And look what happens. When you see photos with the regulars in almost every special occasion, you assume all of them will be in the next one. Even without a serious matter of someone passing, opportunities will still pass, and people will disappear, new cities, new commitments, and it's gone. Always think as if it's a once in a lifetime only chance. Even if he didn't have that philopshy, Dante seemed to have taken advantage from the photo's and postings I've seen, and I believe that's the meaning of life. When you get a chance to do something, do it if you want to and not wait for the next pass. |

I recall hanging with him during lunch break on a June 2000 Museum D-Type trip to Coney Island. Apparently it wasn't the first time we'd met, because he immediately knew who I was. He introduced himself as "D-train" and wore the appropriate T-shirt.In the intervening years, the D-train/Dante connection was lost- at least to me. |

When I learned of Dante's passing on another thread regarding his services, I couldn't help but feel a lump in the throat and a tear in my eye. We'd probably met numerous times on MOD trips and other railfan events. Back in June 2000 we had a nice lunchbreak conversation on the Coney Island overpass while waiting for the D-types to return from the yard. This was during his 'D train' period. It was sometimes hard to keep up with him amidst all his handle changes. But he always had something interesting to post on the boards. His Youtube videos are wonderful for railfans and nonfans alike. RIP, Dante. You deserve all the best. |
