Dante |

Posted by JohnL on Fri Apr 6 14:29:57 2007 Things I didn’t know about Dante:Valedictorian of his high school Awards and Honors: Who's Who American High School Students, A.J. Drexel Scholar (scholarship awarded to top 15% of applicants to school), Challenger Award, Gold Medal in Social Studies and Science, The Michael Wallace Award - for outstanding achievement in Computer Science. I knew Dante was a remarkable person. Just how remarkable I have only just found out. We will miss you! Source: A section of Dante’s mom’s blog a very bright spot. The rest of the page is difficult to read but it demonstrates Dante’s courage when he was being light and funny here, while still dealing with a serious medical problem at the same time |

An impressive young man.I lost a good friend in the 11th grade to bone cancer. He was so brave, he was still in class up to his last couple of weeks. He was in terrible pain all the time, yet he came to class, performed his lab experiments (he had to lie on the table to do it because he could not sit up straight), took his exams. He was one of the bright spots in my day. It's been almost 30 years since he died but I will not forget him. |

Some of us saw him in the chat, and we knew he was sick, but he never made a big deal of it. He lived his life on his terms, and even up until a few days ago, he was still riding trains and having fun.:( |

I would like to pay my deepest respect to the family and frinds of Dante, althrough I am new to the transit sites, and never had the pleasure to befriend him through postings, it is clear that as I read about him through his very own postings and those that explain his short yet productive life, that Dante was the kind of person we needed more of in life and on this earth. God Bless, and Gods Speed. Gone but never forgotten. Thank you for your time with us,Dante. |

Re: Dante |

Posted by Canton Viaduct on Sat Apr 7 15:21:57 2007, in response to Dante, posted by JohnL on Fri Apr 6 14:29:57 2007. I was telling a friend last night that the whole "full of life" thing has somehow eroded itself into a trite cliche, but it was so true with Dante. While I only met him a few times, particularly in 2004, I'll never forget his wit and humor both in person and online. Dante offered so much to us and to the world in the little time that we knew him. I, personally, was unaware that he was undergoing these personal bouts. But that was the thing about Dante -- as others have alluded to, there he was, within the past few weeks, out there having fun and enjoying life, cherishing every moment. Dante was far too young to be taken from us and he's going to be missed for so much longer. |

I am not one to have known him too well either, but I do recall that with regard to railfanning and the love of trains, he was thoroughly immersed in it to the point that it was not a shallow obsession but a pursuit of knowledge and peace. He was the Mayor of MOD trips among his many friends and truly brightened any car he attended. He lives on through his photos, so his presence will be felt by all of us for a long time to come. |

Hahaha, I have no idea why I happened to save this photo....I think because I always like taking photos in Bushwick, and this is a photo that was taken at the corner of Bushwick Ave and Moffat St, across from St Thomas Episcopal Church.Anyway, does anyone know what the context of this photo was? I remember Dante posting it, and he was making one of his OMGWTFBBQ posts about how he had to wait all the way down here because of something the MTA was doing at the Chauncey St station?? Anyway, I guess the context of his post just struck me as funny at the time because of the way he must have posted it, so that's probably why I saved the photo. Anyway, I just happen to find it in some of my Bushwick photos: |

Yeah, I love that about Bushwick too, and Bedford Stuyvesant. Almost more than any areas, it has some architectually beautiful churches/religious buildings. Even some of the great old Theaters, like the Loews Gates Theater was perserved as a church.Actually, Bushwick Ave has to be the epidomy of this phenomena, as I think there's a church on almost every block, many of them quite beautiful! |
