Batteries that are still very susceptible to thermal runaway are what's "stupid". Their instability is not enough to overcome the thermodynamics of number of moving parts; if that were a factor, then we'd still have steam cars since they also have fewer moving parts than any ICE.Never mind the curb weight of those EVs. Also never mind the power grid problems, the comparatively low range and time consumed with charging. I don't mind rich people having their toys, mind you. |

This sounds like a post from someone who still uses brakes in their car and changes too many fluids.I have dozens of devices at home that use batteries. Literally dozens and my flat hasn't blown up yet. I'm an old cyberpunk like Musk so I really do like my toys and bots. "Never mind the curb weight of those EVs." You live in the land of SUV's and stinky pick-up trucks every 3 feet, so don't talk to me about the weight of my sedan like it is a legitimate issue. "Also never mind the power grid problems" Where do we live? In Cuba where the grid can't handle consumer microwaves? wtf, this is America! If you don't like the fact that the average age of the transmission line is 53 years old (!!!) then vote for Trump and dump buyden. Yeah, I said it, because this is such a sad sack excuse it's practically democratic. "the comparatively low range and time consumed with charging." I do not understand the charge levied here. I plug it in every few days or once a week for my personal needs. My AC runs more. I know someone who has a very old nissan leaf, and he doesn't even plug it in to his gorgeous garage every night. If you are talking about the fabled "road trip" that everyone in the USA does 3 times a week I assume from how often this is argued, I will be honest. I have not beat been able to beat the car yet. It will always get the charge it needs before I can finish peeing and eat a sandwich. Therefore, this talk of superchargers at a steak and shake or other such places do not work imo without some adjustment. We need a quasi-system for malls and restaurants that match the time you are there. They are either too fast, or too slow. "I don't mind rich people having their toys, mind you." Like Trump I want a cybertruck too. I agree. Maybe if I didn't mind the Saudi's, I'd want a Lucid. Model 3's are cheaper than the price of the average new car. Avg price of a new car was 43k I recall 2 years ago. I haven't seen an article this year stating the average. |

I bought a non plug-in hybrid. The battery charges on braking and I get both EV or ICE depending on battery charge and driving conditions. I get a not too shabby 500 mile range on my 13 gallon tank and taking less than 5 minutes to top off my tank. |

People keep telling me about the efficiency they get from such a critter. The stories don't sound that shabby, but I can't get used to having to always use the brakes again.Ignoring tesla's super space age rocket program technologies for this discussion. |

This sounds like a post from someone who still uses brakes in their car and changes too many fluidsLOL, you really have no understanding. There are cars and there are cars. Let's see if you can get more than 150K miles as per most Tesla warranties. And let us know when these things are actually affordable. Where do we live? In Cuba where the grid can't handle consumer microwaves? wtf, this is America You of all people should be aware that the US power grid is not set up for a big increase in electric vehicles. And of course rather than Tesla, it's commie thug "companies" like BYD who are trying to invade the US with "cheap" EVs like they're in Europe now. I plug it in every few days or once a week for my personal needs. My AC runs more Comparing apples and oranges. |

" Let's see if you can get more than 150K miles as per most Tesla warranties."I see no reason to get more than 150k miles. It's been very nice not having to go take my car to the "doctor" for the past few years or giving it a "treat" of higher octane fluids.* " And let us know when these things are actually affordable." Yes, they're cheaper than the average cost of a car on the bell curve. *Leads me to fluids. A Kwh is a Kwh. Don't matter if it's going to my dishwasher, microwave, AC, youtube, television or whatnot. All things we were told the grid could not power and we were doomed. "I plug it in every few days or once a week for my personal needs. My AC runs more Comparing apples and oranges." Btw, we have another Code Red day, where they tell you not to drive. I'm seeing more and more of these notices not to drive, combine trips, don't pump gasoline in the afternoons etc. None of it effects me. I'm out of it. |

Using the "brakes" is very similar to that of an EV. The dynamic brake energy is used to charge the battery. Much like a subway dynamic brake thevactual brake is used below 5 mph. |

"Your entire drive train is 17 parts including a 3 part motor. I rest my case."You have no "case" . Todays ICE cars are far from that simple. Sounds like your clueless about what goes into the mechanics of todays automatic transmissions. However, there are still a few unscrupulous auto mechanics out there. I'm sure that Tesla and their mechanical ilk will have their share of rip off artists. |

I have no transmission.Tesla tech came to my residence in a model s to replace a piece of plastic that broke. 200 bucks. No fluid on construction paper upsell bullshit. Best experience ever. Last time I went to a mechanic with an automatic it was like waiting in a hospital watching people nest and a salesman going from person to person to deliver the bad news. My car can destroy the enviroment and make us go commie before I ever do that again. |

I understate the piece of plastic. I had a motorized part that came disconnected from the motor. Kinda like a power window or door lock on a standard car type of thing. Not a serious issue. |

THat's what I love about these cars, I get the traction motor sounds as I call it. Especially if it's a nice day and I don't need the AC or heater and it's just me and the electric engine. |

By the way, it's the AI and data centers you need to protest, not an electric kia or tesla. We have the juice for cars. For data centers and the terminator, not so much. One data center they're building in Atlanta (a capital of these things) requires as much energy as 325,000 homes. It's not even the biggest, and it's not connected to any Tesla, Amazon, Facebook. It's just a generic center. Now imagine what Dojo, Grok, or ChatGPT requires. The matrix becomes more understandable now doesn't it? |
