Some of the comments from politicians, including some Democrats, addressed the incident and mentioned Trump by name while others were along the lines of "Violence has no place in Pennsylvania or the United States. It is unacceptable and is not the way to settle our differences" Really?It reminds me of the former Governor of Maryland, the Democrat Martin O'Malley, who stated in part "All Lives Matter" while speaking at a conference/gathering of liberal activists and was roundly criticized for his statement. In all candor, I could see myself in that same situation making the same statement, or mistake. After thinking it over I better understood why some felt it was wrong of him to make that statement even though it was never his intent for the statement to be perceived in that fashion... far from it. Later that day, he apologized for using the phrase in that context if it was perceived that he was minimizing the importance of blacks being killed by police. My point being, similar to "Black Lives Matter" or "Say Her Name", either say his name, in this case Trump, or say nothing at all. Otherwise, it comes across as disingenuous and insincere, never mind insulting, something you needed to do as an obligatory gesture instead of wanted to do as a matter of basic humanity, and you are simply diluting the message. I am not a Trump supporter and never have been, but in this matter it doesn't matter. I should not even have to write that. |
