Legal Advice Needed!

Posted by Train Dude on Sat Jun 22 14:02:34 2024

Last evening several UPS packages were delivered to my home. One of the packages, the largest and heaviest was sent to my address but not to the correct name. We phoned UPS and explained the situation. Not wanting porch pirates to take it, I secured it behind shrubbery. As yet, nearly 24 hours later, no one from UPS has attempted to retrieve the package or to contact us. It's obvious that the package contains new furniture. At what point do I consider the package abandoned.

Take it to your local post and explain the situation postal workers at post offices are much more helpful than CSRs on the phone.

Is there a sender listed on the label? You might be able to contact them.

I've also had a fair amount of luck in this situation Googling the addressee.

Once the name was unusual and I found her phone number right away and called her.

I said her package had been delivered to our building because it had our address on it. She swore she lived in our building. She had just moved in and didn't even know her own address correctly.

I have a similar situation with some of my deliveries. My address is 7401 and the building across the street is 7410. Despite this only once has a package for me been delivered across the street and in that instance, a neighbor in that building was kind enough to bring it to me personally.

Mystery solved. Apparently my new neighbor does not know her new address

UPS delivering to an address different from the one on the label happens all the time on my block.

What is much rarer is when the recipient actually gave the vendor a false address, thinking it was their own.

It happens pretty frequently where I live as well, and not just UPS.
