I never heard of anyone getting mercury poisoning from a thermometer.

It’s not you, it’s the argument of everyone who doesn’t believe that the climate can be affected by man.

You broke Olog's rules about hijacking the thread then.

"We are forced to wear seatbelts in cars or we hear a loud shrill sound."

Tesla has learned that you can make a safe car without the need for seatbelts by using other methods.

You have to accidentally break it.

It really has happened to a small portion of the tens of millions of mercury thermometers sold.

Also, people toss them into the garbage, and the mercury leaches out of the land fill.

You'd have to really concentrate on breatjing fumes in from a broken thermometer to even get close to toxic levels.

Most home thermometers are alcohol.

"You have to accidentally break it."

Yeah...makes sense

"It really has happened to a small portion of the tens of millions of mercury thermometers sold."

I'm sure it has. But my point was the miniscule amount of mercury released didn't make anyone sick as far as I know. There certainly more potential harm from the broken glass v/s the released mercury. In addition, I'm sure there was a more toxic potential from the mercury in dental fillings, which I have had several.

"...and the mercury leaches out of the land fill."

How much mercury are we talking about here?

I believe that a certain percentage of climate change is a result of the industrial revolution. My question is how much v/s cyclical planetary warming.

We know now that at least in the last 150 years, it’s more artificial than natural.

They haven't found anything yet which correlates with the rise in temperatures, except for the start of the Industrial Age.

You are part of a truly mentally disfunctional religion. This planet h as been in an interglacial period for the past 11,700 years. That you think that human-kind will be able to stop the next ice age is pure fantasy. Climate is beyond man's control.

We can probably also somewhat alter future naturally occurring climate cycles.

Though if another Krakatoa explodes, there's probably nothing to be done in the very short time frame except try to organize emergency food aid really well for a change.

I do support geo-engineering and adaptation as a solution to climate change, not just “cutting carbon emissions.” We’re not getting rid of all carbon emissions soon, and “biomass” is a sham.
