The Australian gun confiscation didn't work. There's a Vox Article that includes a chart that shows that gun suicides went down after the gun confiscation, but National Review points out that non-gun suicides went down more sharply.The fact that there was one mass shooting proves that the gun confiscation was unable to completely prevent mass shootings, but it says nothing about whether it was actually effective. For one thing, mass shootings may have been a rare thing in Australia anyway. Please define "assault rifle." Then we can discuss. |

Um, 35,000 / 3 million is 1.1%.But your denominator is wrong too. Maybe there are 175 million gun owners. 35,000 / 175 million = 0.02%. That looks small, but it is comparable to car deaths. And cars get used maybe an hour per day per owner, while many guns only get used hours per year per owner. For each hour that a person has a gun in their possession, far more goes wrong than for each hour that a person is operating a car. |
