I have (cluephone rings) IT AIN'T EASY.That's for sure. Belittling the unemployed is never a good idea. But take a look at your own comments. Sometimes you chastise those who do so, sometimes you call them a "gentleman." |

You don't think the substantially greater distance that it covers is a factor? If (hypothetically speaking) my commute covers 80 miles and takes two hours while yours covers 5 miles and also takes two hours, have we received similar services, and should we pay similar fares? It seems quite obvious to me that, in this case, I receive much better service than you do -- it covers a distance 16 times greater and moves much faster. |

But just for the record: I have several fallbacks. I am quite a way away from being destitute. I can quite afford not to take the first offer that comes. I have not started a conscious effort to look for work until about three weeks ago. What is angering me, however, is that it seems that few offers are coming due to reasons that have nothing to do with my level of skill and experience. For example, from my previous thread, I mentioned that a headhunter with two positions available calls me down to his office merely to say, "Don't just rely on us to help you find a job. You should also continue your job search on your own," and "I will send your resume to [two companies mentioned], but their decision-maker may not be in for a couple of weeks, and even then, may not want to see you despite my having handed him your resume." That sounds to me like I am a fat, white, old male not fitting his profile. And this isn't the first time something like this occurred. If Eliot Spitzer would look into this, he has my vote this November. I am not lamenting being out of work. I am lamenting the fact that all I seem to be getting in the way of offers is entry-level busywork positions tangential to my skill base, independent contractor or commissioned sales positions, and affronts to my experience and ability with respect to my person. It's like a fine chef whose restaurant closed down through no fault of his own getting offers from diners and from McDonald's when he casts his resume into the market. There's a bit of disconnect there. |

Wrong history book then, brah. |
