The Public School Board memberships are publicly elected positions. The boards of the private schools are not. I do feel, as do many other people in the 5 Towns, that the yeshivas should be opening their books to allow independent auditors to find out where all of that tuition money is going, but so far, no dice.I do understand that the yeshivas are spending a lot of money on security these days. There are many, MANY people in this world who, given the opportunity, would be glad to take a machine gun into the yeshivas and kill every last man, woman and child they see only because they hate Jews. When I was in yeshiva in the 1970's, anyone could walk right in off the street and there really was no fear of mass murders. Today, its on the forefront of every yeshiva's agenda. |

No one can handle really cheap ketchup for pennies on the dollar.It wasn't sardines or borscht. Candy, Ketchup, Mustard, cake mix! Of course, I could say the same issue with the Jews here too. One of the last, or maybe the last southern southermarket chains (winn-dixie) almost all of the generics are Kosher. They seem more reliable than other brands. I heard this stereotype recently from the rare Jew that I encounter here and there. I didn't understand where exactly this comes from. Unless he means some traditional European dish. I'm just saying you can make nearly anything with kosher ingrediants. Unless you live on the border where jars of pigs blood is front and center in the supermarkets. |

I think your posts have been funny, those that were intended partially as such.While this cannot always be said for other non-dietary laws. The laws of kosher food purity is clearly rooted in moralistic reasons. Maybe others would disagree with me, but to me they make sense. Like I said with Lunch's posts(pun intented, food subject), Kosher is a lot more than "no lobster or bacon" as we always hear, it encompasses all food. In the beginning meat was not even allowed, now it is. It is unfortunate I know so little of Halal versus the rest of the daily Islamic teachings in the press. I would've liked to use that as an example if one should exist. Then again, I get the urge to walk to up people in priests outfits and ask them why they seem to follow no dietary laws that I can notice. |

I think the changeover is due to the internet, maybe television. I'm noticing a lot of variations and slang have been becoming standardized. I wish I could think of another example at the moment, but with the online news industry/press, they keep cutting and pasting and feeding off of each other. Things and customs that always had variations are now standardized from whomever the first person to write it on the internet, then it gets cut and pasted. I'll probably see an example today right after I hit submit.Also, Between you saying that, your post about Shabbat, Shabbos, Sabbath, and Spider-pigs spelling post, Clearaspect just gained a LOT of new targets of people to troll. |

There is a very well known, and probably one of the most prolific Hassidic Rabbis who gives a great explanation for why the tree even existed.
