I wanted to find another source than the ones I usually go to, because then it gets into really heavy and esoteric reading.

This seems ok for a synopsis of a lot of text sources

There was this Jewish Knight in England. He was presented to the Queen. Now anyone presented to the Queen has to bow to her and say a passage in Latin. Well the Jewish Knight didn't know any Latin and the only non English line he ever knew was what he remembered from his Seders so he said "Mah nishtanah halyla hazeh mikol halaylot". The Queen, perplexed then asked "why is this Knight different from all other Knights?"

Who knows when this allergy appeared. A quick Google search mentions lactose intolerance, but the symptoms I've heard about are quite a bit more severe.

???

Human milk contains lactose. Wouldn't lactose tolerance always have been prevalent from the time that mammals evolved? If you had serious lactose intolerance you'd be much less likely to survive to reproduce.

Well, it does seem like a large number of Jews have problems with milk proteins (an inherited trait

I've never heard that about Jewish people and I've met and spoken with quite a few who are into the whole foodie trend.

They do say the Torah tells them not to combine dairy with meat. Some think that was based on experience, as milk is known to block absorption of meat nutrition.

Lactose intolerance is something that (normally) develops as people age. People gradually lose the ability to create lactase, the enzyme to digest it. Some groups have a mutation where they maintain the ability throughout adulthood, presumably to survive periods when meat was scarce.

The condition I was talking about wasn't lactose intolerance, however. It's an allergy to the protein(s) in milk, not to lactose, the sugar.

That's because we have the intelligence to be able to farm cows and milk them for food.

Dogs and cats don't have that ability. But I've seen adult cats and dogs drink milk when it was put in a bowl for them to drink it from.

Human milk contains lactose. Wouldn't lactose tolerance always have been prevalent from the time that mammals evolved?

In infancy, yes. All infant mammals are lactose tolerant but stop producing lactase enzyme shortly after weaning.

Some humans have a mutation called lactase persistence that allows them to remain lactose tolerant into adulthood, but this is by no means the default condition for humans and incredibly rare among mammals as a whole.

When Spider-Pig says lactose intolerance is the default condition, he means lactose intolerance after weaning.

But your post makes no sense.

Jewish law prohibits eating meat with milk.

Research indicates that milk interferes with mineral absorption.

We know that fasting is good for mitochondria.

So it makes sense that certain religious laws might be beneficial to us. It's the intellectual aspect of religion.
