Amazing that the liberal rocket scientists thought anything else would be the result. Wendys has already ordered more than 6000 robots that should replace about 20,000 part time workers. |

According to the report, just over half of the businesses surveyed said they planned to raise prices in order to offset the cost of a minimum wage hike. Thirty-five percent said they would likely reduce staffing levels and 37 percent said they would reduce employees’ hours or reduce the number of hours they were open for business. Thirty-one percent of businesses said they were very likely to hire more skilled workers in the future to offset the higher wage.Three of those five results are good things all around. |

Having been job searching in DC itself, this survey is suspect for a ton of reasons:1: What kind of jobs did they survey? Were these offices? Restaurants? Other retail? A small boutique store would get hit more than say Safeway. 2: This backfiring only will drive people to work in Virginia/Maryland where as it is where many already commute to even on the service level. 3: Work in DC proper is heavily divided by education level. Your typical degree holders would rather do "funemployment" if unemployed than go into the service sector and the service sector often looks down on anyone with any education. I speak from experience as a degree holder who was unemployed in DC and told by service jobs to "not bother.: 4: Work in DC is also somewhat divided by race and class and given the CoL and education levels lower income white people just do not exist inside the Beltway. 5: Even with these divisions the glut of internships means this will effect the white collar sector a lot less than it ordinarily would. |

The media isn't smart enough to put two and two together.First, they say that internships have to pay. Second, they raise the cost of interns more than double. They will never figure out why internships have dropped. Of course, government gets away with free internships all of the time. Look at their boards. |

By "overpopulation", do you mean illegal alien immigration? The average population density of the USA is still about 35 people per square mile, genius. That's very low. Red China is 145 people per square mile even in spite of their almost 1.4 billion population. |

I have a colleague who grew up in China before coming to the U.S. with tech degrees. She still marvels at how clean the air is in New York and Long Island. Not only the pollution but I never knew that Beijing gets dust storms from the Gobi Desert. So don't start thinking that the comparative density of China and the U.S. means we can squeeze in another 110 people per square mile before things get bad. |

For now, food technology is keeping up with population. We are better able to feed the world than ever before. And as world health improves, people stop having 6 kids when they realize that the first 2 will actually live to adulthood. I have heard these assertions in reply to Malthus as long as I can remember, especially in socialist theory.Since WWII food and medical technology have enabled the world to sustain a growing population. But a controlled population as a response? When I was born the world population was under 2.5 billion. When Kennedy was elected it was ~3 billion. When Clinton was elected it was ~5.5 billion. Now it is ~7.4 billion. In my one lifetime world population has more than tripled. That "incredible rapidity" of demographic change you're talking about is lagging a bit. |

We don't yet have a United Nations with enforcement powers that can overrule national sovereignty; but if they should someday decide to "distribute world population more equitably" they might well be able to make demographic changes in countries like the U.S. with stunning rapidity* that will make the current illegal immigrant number look like chump change.*with some help from compassionate, forward-looking quislings. |

My thought has always been to try and encourage people to move into cities. If population increases are handled vertically, not only is greater efficiency achieved, but "green space"/nature will always be available. I don't need an acre of backyard I have to maintain - when I want rugged nature I go to one of several nearby state parks. When I want carefully curated gardens I go to nearby city parks. The people crying most about overpopulation are the ones who move into unspoiled, still wild areas worsening the very problem they complain about. I have a co-worker who is exactly like this, says there's too many people in the world and proceeded to build a house on a 13 acre plot of land. |

There's no need to encourage anything. As resources become more scarce, they'll become more expensive such that your co-worker will be unable to afford 13 acres. Until then, it's fine to an extent. |

The problem with Fox News though is that their reporting is completely one-sided, the modern day equivalent of Goebbel's "Der Angriff". It has always existed for one purpose, to promote "Republican values" in the hands of its operator, republican faithful Roger Ailes. It's only "credible" in terms of its purity in promoting the party agenda, certainly not as a news organization which is supposed to be completely impartial.Fox News has been such a cancer on journalism, that its competitors aren't credible either these days, trying to hook whatever fragment of audiences that doesn't watch Fox News. Good for them on their ratings, look at what captures the ratings for "entertainment" these days. Not impressive either. |
