Romney lost for a number of reasons and not because of Obama's skin color. Because of skewed polling I think he misjudged where the public was and is on "Obamacare." If you call it the Affordable Care Act you get different results which means the problem is less the contents of the law than how it was spun in the media. Romney could have campaigned how successful he was making a similar system work in Massachusetts when we were having the issues nationally, but he didn't. I also think the Tea Party pulled him too far to the right including putting up the polarizing Paul Ryan as VP. The Tea Party was never going to vote for a third party or sit at home and let Obama get reelected. The Republicans need to realize that nationally the Tea Party bogs them down because it allows the Democrats to tie the most extreme to whomever the candidate is. The Democrats let their wingnuts speak then ignore them when it matters (you do not see them putting up Ralph Nader as VP). The 47% comment did not help either |

You are a Long Island Liberal, so of course you say Obama's skin color did not play a role. But it did. Being black helped Obama every step of the way in his life. Book deals. Elections. Etc. Do you know how powerful it is to run as "First Black President" and "History" and all that stuff? Running against a black man in a Presidential is running against history. It automatically made McCain a racist and Romney too. Against Hillary anyone would have a better chance. |
