After receiving not one,but Two of those "we are monitoring/reviewing your voting record,don't like the way you vote so we are going to keep watch..."mailers,Ive decided to make some Major Changes concerning my political affiliation.

Anyone who votes Democratic is a sucker. Including Joseph Frewer, 26, who will still vote Dem in spite of this threatening letter. Not that the big-government GOP is much better, but they have not done anything like this.

Democrats Put Off By Letter To Voters Saying, ‘Whether You Vote Is Public Record’

Midterm elections have lower voter turnout, so both parties have been pulling out all the stops to get people to the polls.

But as CBS2’s Matt Kozar reported Thursday night, one mailing sent by the New York State Democratic Committee has been raising eyebrows and angering likely voters.

Joseph Frewer, 26, got one.

“It feels like you’re being bullied into voting,” he said.

The letter starts out: “Who you vote for is your secret. But whether or not you vote is public record.” It continues: “If you do not vote this year, we will be interested to hear why not.”

“I’m already going to vote Democratic, most likely,” Frewer said. “This just feels like you’re bossing me around. It makes me less likely to want to.”

Reaction to the flier on Twitter has been mixed.

“I won’t vote this year because I got one of these,” one man wrote.
But another said, “This is pretty tame ‘social pressure.’”

David Birdsell, dean of the Baruch College School of Public Affairs, said both parties want to increase voter turnout. The question is how to do it effectively.

“Usually, it’s frightening people about the prospect of a victory for the other party if you don’t get out there,” Birdsell said. “It’s very unusual to threaten people with surveillance and following.”

When CBS2 asked about the mailing, a representative of the New York State Democratic Committee sent a statement.

“This flyer is part of the nationwide Democratic response to traditional Republican voter suppression efforts, because Democrats believe our democracy works better when more people vote, not less,” the statement said.

And while Frewer said he will still vote blue on Tuesday despite being turned off by the flier, he is worried that undecided Democrats who received the letter will not.

Nothing wrong with that sentiment. The Democratic Party should be trying to find out why peopel aren't voting. It should have been worded differently though, because it does sound vaguely menacing.

This sentence is complete gibberish. The rest of your post is not much better. You're basically living in your own little world where up is left and down is Sunday.

So for those of us who live in the real world, would you kindly explain what's so threatening about saying: "If you don't vote, people will know that you didn't vote?"

They make a threat then they try to soften it, maybe for denyabililty. I mean "[if you don't vote] we'll be interested to hear why not."

They can say, we didn't say we would find out, we just said we were interested to know. What would they do, "out" non-voters like Koch (I think) outing Johns?

I can't believe that let that thing go out. People think government and pols are big brotherish enough already.

The Democratic Party is a business. If it is ineffective at attracting customers, it has a right to inquire why. That inquiry must of course properly respect privacy rights, just like all market research undertaken by businesses.

It's none of their damn business.
As for "inneffective at attrackting customers".....all they need to do is see how they have handled office since 2006 (when they took over congress), and more so after 2008. The democrats have the same problem the republicans had in 2006-2008.

My mother is a registered democrat (basically a DINO, bit more of an independent mindset, voted for Clinton over Dole, but Bush over Gore) and got one for missing a few elections. Namely the 2010 midterms. Which occurred while she was in North Shore-Manhasset for chemo. And she was not happy about that mailer. Had me send an email saying, in short "Who are you to tell me anything about voting".

I wasn't going to vote for him anyway, but now the entire party will be off my #2 pencil on Tuesday. I won't vote republican, but I sure as shit won't vote democrat either. And if a third party cross-endorses, I'll vote for anyone NOT on the democrat ticket or leave that entry empty.

I don't think you truly appreciate New York attitudes. This action was the kiss of death and just might get a Green elected because Asteroid is every bit as out of there as Paladino was. There may be Pavlovians on both sides of the aisle who will still pull the lever expecting a doggie treat, but anyone who thinks is definitely as pissed off over this as Edwards and we are.

I'm just glad we're "unenrolled in any political party" because if I had gotten this letter, I wouldn't want to stop at just not voting for any of them, which we weren't going to do anyway. This stupid though ensures that we won't vote for them on a cross-endorsed minor party line either. Fucking dumbasses.

I dunno about exposed to me this reeks of fear and desperation. Fear that dem voter's historic low turn out for midterm elections and the multiple polls indicating they will lose congress. Fear tactics however will have the opposite effect might keep voters home.

This is monumental stupid, and it's all Prince Andrew's doing who is finally beginning to realize that after abandoning upstate for the past four years, even the few areas of democratic sympathy are overwhelmingly going to vote his ass out this year. If the republicans hadn't put up a total retard, they could have won. But Asteroid is going to get a LOT more votes than the polls suggest so far because from state workers in Albany who vote democratic, he fucked them hard. They're going to vote for Asteroid.

The REST of the state have never seen the Prince and one thing you HAVE to do upstate is show up once in a while. He flipped us the bird throughout his royal existence, and it's going to hurt him big time. The funny part is that because the republican candidate is even MORE fucked up, watch the Green party do VERY well upstate ...

So all Prince Andrew has left is the city and surrounding semi-urban areas who he's kissed up to the past four years. New York has no dogs in the federal fight - no Senate seats open, and as to the Congressional seats, only one is likely to flip statewide a bit north of here - it will flip republican because the democrat is a bigger asshole than Asteroid.

So yeah, this intrigue is entirely Prince Andrew's doing ... :(
