Probably as true as the x rays of Officer Darren Wilson's eye were.I guess if you were yawning and somebody spit or pissed in your mouth you could contract ebola LOL Don't see no airborne droplets here your pal, Fred |

The only "news sources" that are reporting this are "secondary" or sources that could be considered questionable.http://www.infowars.com/cdc-finally-admits-that-ebola-can-float-through-the-air-3-feet/ http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2014/10/cdc-finally-gets-right-ebola-spreads-aerosols-3-feet.html&sa=U&ei=AJFPVM3sD5exyASEiIGQBg&ved=0CC4QFjACOAo&usg=AFQjCNFfjgzTpcvRFsKUfxCdRCVpPGFkAQ I did a simple Google search on 'CDC Ebola' and not one of the major news services (CNN, UPI, Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC etc) has anything to say about this). It wasn't on TV either. I am not saying that it isn't possible for it to be spread airborne but you'd think that the major news organizations would have been all over this as a story by now. |

I read it in the NY Times over a week ago. It's still transfer of bodily fluids. It's simply that if you sneeze onto my finger and I touch my eye, we've transferred your bodily fluids to me. |

That's not the same as the virus itself bring active while floating in the air. A droplet is on the same scale to the virus as a decent sized lake is to a whale. Plenty of water surrounding it to protect the structure. |

Why does everyone criticize the news source when it's who they're quoting that's the important part?Well gee, a person with a long history of spewing bullshit and telling lies declares: "The CDC totally says ebola can be spread by airborne transmission," why shouldn't we believe him? After all, the CDC is trustworthy and it's not like a liar might be lying about what the CDC said, right? After all, it's not like I can actually check what the CDC actually says. Airborne transmission of Ebola virus has been hypothesized but not demonstrated in humans. While Ebola virus can be spread through airborne particles under experimental conditions in animals, this type of spread has not been documented during human EVD outbreaks in settings such as hospitals or households. |

The CDC has reported that droplet spread can spread ebola; that's what the NN story was reporting. No, the story is reporting "CDC now admits Ebola can spread through the air" and asserts that the CDC "is starting to move the narrative." Both are patently false. Droplet spread and airborne transmission are not the same thing, and the CDC isn't moving any narrative; it's doing the opposite and stressing that it is not airborne. |

That PDF is not linked from anywhere I can find on the CDC website, it contradicts everything else the CDC is saying, and it's written, well, oddly— using simplified childish language.I'm not sure why you're arguing with me since I'm agreeing with you. If you paid attention to the URL, you'll note it's on the CDC website. It summarizes information from the transmission studies you linked to, although that page hypothesizes that airborne transmission is possible but unconfirmed ("In outbreak investigations, some EVD patients have not reported contact with another EVD patient, leading to speculation regarding transmission via aerosolized virus particles...transmission via droplets or fomites were also not ruled out." "Airborne transmission of EVD among humans has never been demonstrated in investigations that have described human-to-human transmission although hypothetical concerns about airborne transmission of EVD have been raised."). The same information in html form is on the CDC's Ebola Transmission page, and the actual PDF can be found from the CDC website by clicking the big purple "Ebola Update" graphic; then "Factsheets" under "Communication Resources" on the right side of the page, about halfway down; then "What’s the difference between infections spread through the air or by droplets?[PDF - 1 page]," the third bullet. That PDF notwithstanding, there's no evidence that ebola is spread through coughs or sneezes. That's what the PDF (and other CDC information) says - unless someone coughs or sneezes directly into an unprotected mucous membrane, there's no risk of spread through coughs or sneezes. |

Already in the NY Times on October 2.Not the same story. The Toothpaste Times didn't assert that "droplet spread" really means "airborne" or that 3 feet today will be 5 feet tomorrow, then 10 feet, then incinerating all victims' possessions next month. |
