This might come as a shock, but non-Jews own property in Israel, too.Taking the analogy literally. FAIL. Which is why Israel prohibits racial, ethnic, economic, and political segregation in schools. OK given the above, it's not surprising you failed to grasp the analogy. Would you like it explained to you? |

I never pegged you as the sort of person to support right to travel after all the fuss you made in the immigration thread about how citizenship should be limited to people at most a generation or two removed from the country in question. |

Why shouldn't they be?Because humanity grows and progresses as years and centuries pass and there's absolutely no reason why the people of today should be constrained by the ignorance, prejudices, and faults of long-dead ancestors. Any country which was old enough was founded on the principle of might makes right— we conquered it, so it's ours. Does that mean they should return to colonialism? Many countries were founded on the principle of an absolute dictator's divine right to rule. Should they oppose democracy? America was founded on the innate superiority of white men. Should we bring back slavery? There are a million things that make any country unique. Clinging to the abhorrent ideas of primitive ancestors is not necessary in that regard and wouldn't be worth it if it was. |

No, founding principles can be changed. Like the US removed slavery as one of its founding principles. There's probably a better term for this than "founding principles." |

It expresses a concept (what makes Israel unique) and phrases it in the format of a well-known and somewhat related thing (the stuff people say at a Seder) (I think; we usually skipped that part). It may not be a pun, but there's some word for it I can't be bothered to look up at 4 AM. |
