Mayor DeBlasio doesn't sit on the City Council. Also, from the article:Mayor de Blasio’s preliminary budget, presented in February, didn’t include a universal free lunch program |

Mayor DeBlasio doesn't sit on the City CouncilCan we have some more nonsequiturs, Captain Obvious? Do you also think people assume that the POTUS sits in either the House or the Senate? Preliminary budgets are preliminary budgets. And it's up to the council to approve the budget. The fight is just starting, if this issue is the sticking point. |

Yes; I've noticed that most liberals never carefully read the article even when the entire text is posted. Such as the phrase "preliminary budget". And then looking up the powers of the NYC Council. |

Weak.Train Dude says DeBlasio wants free school lunches for everyone. RIPTA says that according to the article DeBlasio hasn't been involved in the proposal. You say that maybe in the future DeBlasio might agree to the free lunches because the City Council will demand that in its budget negotiations. |

Train Dude says DeBlasio wants free school lunches for everyoneNothing in the NYDN article suggests he doesn't; not even the preliminary budget. You say that maybe in the future DeBlasio might agree to the free lunches because the City Council will demand that in its budget negotiations Nice way to get what one wants via reverse psychology. Think about how Obama gets everything he wants out of the "opposition" in Congress. |

For the second or twentieth time, I am the acknowledged leader of the classical languages on this board and so it follows I can use Latin/Latin derivation/Latin declension at times of my choosing. Nobody else except for the whimsical John L can. What don't you get? |

You on the other are not qualified at all since you live all the way out in Islip, Suffolk County, NY. You have no ties whatsoever with NYC other than being a loudmouth and a sore loser. Except for the new car thing, that list actually *isn't* a bad idea. If the government covers the baseline expenses for everyone in the US, minimum wage laws become unnecessary: if the job pays so little for the work required that literally doing nothing is better, then that is what will happen. Unemployment insurance would no longer be necessary either. It also would reduce crime by providing another option than: "well, I can either become homeless, or commit various crimes for money until I get caught, and then it's 3 hots and a cot."Right now it seems like a bad idea. In 30 years when automation and outsourcing have eliminated half the American jobs, something like that will be necessary to avoid a police state or anarchy. |
