Note for SelkirkTMO and bingbong

My February work schedule was released yesterday and, once again, I have 4 tickets I will not be able to use. This time it is for NCAA Division 1 college hockey featuring the traditional power Lake Superior State Lakers of St. Saint Marie at Alabama - Huntsville, that noted hockey juggernaut which means a powerful force or institution. The dates are February 21 and 22 which conveniently falls on a Friday and Saturday. I will sell you the tickets at 15% off face value and each comes with a coupon for a free Coke of any size. Assuming you and bingbong decide to accept this generous offer, and I trust you will, you will discover there are other benefits such as sightseeing. Exempli gratia, the Redstone Arsenal, which designs and builds rockets for the US Army and NASA, is located between Decatur and Huntsville. In the event I do not hear back from you or I receive a negative response, I will try to sell them to other SubChatters such as The Hat or Avid Reader or possibly JAzumah. At any rate, let me know of your decision at the earliest opportunity, and thanks again.

Actually, it is. Strangely, one of my trips in late February has all three layovers in Florida - West Palm, Ft. Lauderdale, and Tampa (Hilton Bayfront - St Petersburg) but Tampa is the shortest with an arrival near midnight. Anyway, despite the warm weather, I am looking to trade out of that trip which is something I attempt to do a couple times each month but I'll let you know. I am eyeing a long trip in February with a layover at Ft. Myers Regional Southwest.

If my sister moves back to LA I may try to fly with you in the future if you fly to LAX. Though also trying to get a certain well known pmUA Captain who generally flies the 757

If your flight arrives late in the day, is it coming from EWR or another city? Where do you fly out to from Tampa the next morning?

Why St. Petersburg? Do you choose to stay there or does United put you there?

So EWR-TPA then sleep in St. Pete then TPA to EWR the next day?

I never realized metal tube personnel would drive so far from TPA for a hotel. Guess you got a good deal in St. Pete.

What is the day and time of the FLL trip? Maybe I can get a pic as you fly overhead on final (unless we are still having these northerly/northwesterly winds, in which case you will be vectored straight into runway 28 off the ocean).

Alabama? Hmmm. Got any SF/Denver tickets for the Rotund Governor stadium? As long as someone springs for the pizza, might take that opportunity. :)

February 22 UA 1114 Arrive Tampa 11:37 PM.

There is already suffix "A" attached to the trip which means a tentative change. I'll either be back to Newark on February 23 as originally scheduled in the morning or I'll be working Chicago O'Hare leaving Tampa at 9:05 AM.

Please monitor this thread periodically as the situation remains fluid.

Have the TECO smokestacks on Apollo Beach been knocked down yet? I will get sick just prior to that trip if those things are still standing especially if Tampa is on North Flow operations since I'll be coming down from Newark. Scary.

If you come in on 1L, you'll have to deal with the Apollo Beach TECO smoke stacks.

If you come in on 19L you won't.

Apollo Beach had a nice fireworks show for New Year's.

I am not looking forward to that not at all. I worry about it constantly, day and night preceding the event, and fixate on those things to the detriment of all involved. The whole thing is just crazy.

Hmm, 1/26 is a Sunday, so I might have photography opportunities, except that coming from SFO, they would probably have you come straight in instead of over the Atlantic and the Sunrise approach. Maybe I'll run out to FLL for some spotting if I get a chance, which will be highly unlikely, but we'll see.

Here's today's track for 1568. Due to the cold front we've been having for the last few days, FLL is doing westerly operations, so it looks like it passed right over or near my place. Don't know if that will be the case next Sunday, however. We shall see.
