The way it always worked was that you had to qualify for the one division you were going to work. You COULD go back to schoolcar and qualify for the other - the equipment and territories are THAT different. So you would end up qualifying for either/or. But the rules are if you're going to switch divisions, you must REQUALIFY for the other one, so back to schoolcar again.When I came in, I was assigned to A division but when we started schoolcar, they were short for B division folks, so they asked for volunteers. My hand was up so fast, papers fell off desks. Heh. There's also C division which is misc and work equipment and there you're qualified for either, but you no longer work revenue. Does that help? |

That's one thing that gallery cars solved; Comet Is in their original configuration too.Besides, on railroads like that, trains ran with doors open. I remember a lot of nights getting off the PATH and onto NJT at Newark Penn; the trainmen would open up the traps before the train pulled out, and you'd be flying down the "Northeast Corridor" at close to 100 mph mere inches from doom if you were riding in the vestibule. |
