Well, we have that hear too, especially this time of year when they seem to be a lot louder. It's nice going outside and hearing absolutely nothing but the crickets.....and the occasional horn of the LIRR in the distance.... |

Believe it or not, I find the din of the crickets up here to be almost as bad as the noise on Jamaica Ave. I've actually gone back to sleeping with earplugs. It's THAT freaking loud. |

If the cashier had no previous experience. Other times, you can walk into a brand new store and the manager who ran other locations can ring you up with no problem... |

What I found odd was that a common item, a jar of Tostitos salsa, wouldn't ring up. Two people behind the counter didn't know the price, and a third gave one that's 50% more than what I ordinarily pay, so I passed on it. My $10 change was given in one-dollar bills. No biggie, but I wouldn't have expected this, even from franchisees, after having been so impressed by the well-oiled data-crunching, bodega-killing machine depicted in that NY Mag article. |

You'll get over it, they'll all be in the ice pack soon. :)Whenever I have friends up from the city, those critters and the cows mooing at night keep them awake. That amuses me because every first timer guest we've had up here from down yonder goes through the same thing, falls deep asleep after a while and wakes up at noon with a big WTF? :)Second night, no problem. We've learned to just get them all likkered up and then they never hear the crickets. That works too. Heh. |
