Go to any Long Island message board and ask people what they think of Brentwood, Central Islip, N. Bay Shore, Hunt Station and see what they say.But these aren't the only Suffolk neighbourhoods with violence problems, and certainly ones that don't have violence problems have other kinds of problems. For example, that immigrant killing was in Patchogue. The pharmacy shooting was in Medford. Riverhead's downtown is all but abandoned--I don't know if it just looks bad or if it's actually dangerous. Towns like Centrereach, Coram, Middle Island, and Mastic have their own issues. I don't know that there is such a thing as a completely safe town. Even walking around at night I think I have to watch for ambushing teenagers who are probably just after an iPod or whatever. Sometimes I wonder which kind of crime bothers me more--a shooting, or quality-of-life crimes like teenagers stealing iPods. Just recently there was a murder of a teenager in Bay Shore, and a few months ago there was a home invasion in East Islip where the invaders were shot dead by the homeowner. It's East Islip for goodness sake. I am not sure how I am supposed to feel about that--other than to hope that it wouldn't happen to me... What's with the British English? It's what I was learnt at school, the Queen's English. |
