Back then, if Rome said it, it was irrefutable fact. Aristotle's beliefs were adopted by the Church because at the time, it was becoming apparent that dark times were on the horizon and they wanted to preserve some theologically advantageous science so it would survive the coming Dark Ages. It wasn't until Luthor and the printing of the Bible in vernacular languages (instead of Latin) that the Bible came to be accessible to those outside the elite Church hierarchy. That's when the shit hit the fan. |
