You are correct that the country should have decent manufacturing jobs to help its economy. I doubt it ever will again, because the period of U.S. dominance in manufacturing was due to the Third World not yet coming online and the fact that much of Europe and Japan was bombed to hell. But that has little to nothing to do with American poverty, especially of black and brown people, and certainly nothing to do with the relative place of each group. Neither, for that matter, does the issue of "families", which aren't breaking down, and are symptom—not a cause—of societal harmony. |
