Well, I think I do get it. "Father Houpette" aside, there's little chance of a "state" religion in Europe. Some countries are **militantly** secular. Even strong bastions of the RC church such as Spain and Italy have seen a monumental reduction in church influence in recent years. Spain?? Gay marriage?? Who would have imagined that even 5 yrs ago? And the joke in Italy is that if you want Parliament to adopt a law, get the church to speak out *against* it.

And, recall that "Catholic" Ireland and "Catholic" Italy now have the lowest birth rate in the world. (Try convincing me that Italians have given up sex. LOL!) This, of course, is a major problem since the low birth rate necessitates immigrants (read: Muslims) to do the work.

I'm not prepared to grant that a unified Europe would be "imperialistic." But, even if so, how would their imperialism be any worse than ours??
