It's at a point in the sound that is about dead in the middle between Long Island and Conn, well probably 60/40 closer to Connecticut, but I guess it's a point where the water becomes shallower, and the depth is shallower than most of the sound, so they had to put a lighthouse there eons ago to protect big ships. It's probably only some feet short of being a small island, but it's shallow enough that protection needed to be put there (at least for big ships). But it's so odd to just come by a lighthouse in the middle of no where, and when you are three, you can't really see much of Long Island anymore, and you can barely see Connecticut either (well you can, but you know what I mean, it's far in all directions).This is the side that faces South, Connecticut would be way off in the distance. I guess at some point the house was manned, as most lighthouses were. I couldn't imagine just having to live here in the middle of no where in the middle of the water so far from civilization.
