Actually... while it's true that most black people that most people outside of Africa know are descendants of West Africans, hence the traits we associate with "black" are actually "West African," there is enough distinction between West and East Africans that, if we lived in a smaller world, we could call them different races. "Race" by nature is a fuzzy concept, with no defined size or boundaries, merely an extension in a classification scheme that is somewhere between "family (of relatives)" and "species". Individual West Africans and East Africans are after all most closely related to other West and East Africans, respectively, than to members of the other groups. Indeed, Africa (as the birthplace of humanity) has more genetic variation than any other continent. So it is fair to say that the difference between West Africans and East Africans, as far as their sporting ability and other traits, is race based, just to a different degree than we normally think of the word.
