Spent many years in broadcasting and recording. I'm one of the last types that would favor digital. And frankly, MP3 and the 44 and 48 Khz sampled audio as well as CD's absolutely suck for sound quality. You can't provide fidelity for cymbals with only two clock cycles per sample. However, PCM and FLAC upwards of 110 KHz sampling rate is aurally indistinguishable from a NAGRA recording with low noise amplifiers and absolutely better than a Sculley or studio Ampex. Distortion drives me up a wall, but so does hiss. There's some amazing stuff out there in the five and six figure range that you'll never find in somebody's livingroom. :) |
