Actually, Colin Ferguson's case would have qualified for hate-crime status if there had been such a law on the books then. Ferguson not only used a "black rage" defense, but his writings about why he did the shootings clearly stated he was out to get white people. He even waited until the train was in Nassau County, "out of respect for [then] Mayor Dinkins."I do think Ferguson was seriously touched in the head, but anyone who randomly shoots strangers for twisted reasons is pretty bent to begin with... |
