FIFA needs to add instant replay on goal line situations and offsides and Diego Forlan of Uruguay was the MVP of the tournament. The USA's performance was a glass half-full. We met our minimum goal of advancing out of group (finishing FIRST), were fun to watch but missed an historic opportunity. I think South Africa did a surprisingly good job at running the WC. It makes me wonder if someplace like Cape Town can one day host the Olympics. South America's teams can't hold a candle to the European ones while African ones (except Ghana) were a massive disappointment. France and Italy will rebuild from their debacles and be back in the mix in the near future. Diego Maradona should never be allowed anywhere near a soccer pitch ever again. ESPN/ABC coverage and analysis was very good though there is still room to improve. All in all, except for the first week and the vuvuzelas and the crazy Jubilani ball, it was a very fun WC and I look foward to the next one. Here's hoping that the US wins the bid for 2022. |
