I like soccer, but it's not my favorite sport and there are lots of people like me. It's not even my second favorite sport. The World Cup is my favorite sporting event though.And there most certainly are "rabid" NBA and hockey fans. They just can't afford to go to the games! ;) Also, while people might mention that they don't like basketball or hockey it's not like soccer where people are so adamant about it. So they don't like soccer? Big deal, don't watch. I really do think that it's some patriotic thing where they've heard that soccer is the "next big thing" and how the rest of the world wants us to play soccer for many years so they go out of their way to prove that wrong. Notice how many people use words like "un-American" while mentioning how much more they like American sports. The truth is that the rest of the world, while surprised that we aren't into soccer, don't really care one way or the other. |
