Republicans though should have told people to grow a pair; they would not have lost power over that.Other people wanted his job. His praise for Strom Thurmond's 1948 presidential campaign was just icing on the cake to force him out. Politicians further down the ladder are always waiting for a chance to pull down the guys on higher rungs and take their places. Jim DeMint is trying to do this to GOP Senate Leader Mitch McConnell right now; Chuck Schumer is very quietly maneuvering to succeed Harry Reid if the Majority Leader were to be unseated, but not if Dick Durbin has anything to say about it. |
