But one of the things that have been said is that in an ILS landing, the actual altitude of the ground itself is supposedly relayed by ground control as opposed to what the altimeter says. Supposedly the altimeters in those planes aren't that accurate.In this case, the airport wasn't ILS-equipped. This was apparently one of the reasons why control was adamantly opposed to the Poles landing at the airport instead of diverting elsewhere. It was also reported that the late Polish President himself publicly dressed down pilots who in 2008 refused to land the presidential plane in Georgia when that nation was at war with Russia and diverted to Azerbaijan. |
