Amy Fisher hails from that bastion of comfortable suburbia, Merrick. (Some say the presence of the Lohans in North Merrick have had a negative effect on local property values.) Her paramour and his unfortunate spouse hailed from the similarly solid Massapequa.Joel Rifkin, the very epitome of a 'nice Jewish boy'- i.e. glasses, 'nerdy'- is from East Meadow, another stable middle-class community. And look what HE did! When news of his alleged actions broke, some of his former classmates casually described how he and his friends would bully and reject Rifkin while growing up- including one guy I knew from camp whom I could easily picture pelting another kid with eggs and throwing him in his locker. (I felt like yelling at the screen "Well, I hope you're proud of yourself- maybe YOU contributed to how messed-up he became!") But I digress. The point is, I'm agreeing with your assessment that even kids from 'good communities' or 'good families' can do bad things. |
