National average in crime stats can be misleading because of actual distributions of crime.I've been to Paterson a few times, the area between the station and the courthouse, and I would describe it as hardly a nice place. It was really one of the worse off areas that I encountered. Been to Tampa twice when much younger, and I don't recall much at all. Newark isn't great, but I have been to very different areas within it that it makes a huge difference; still, most of Newark isn't exactly the idealized paradigm of 1950s Americana. I wouldn't call any of the foregoing 'dangerous', but neither would I feel fine about taking a stroll after dark. Nor in all candor would I choose to live in any of these areas. |
