Actually, Eagle Estates in Medford showed signs of "could go either way" back in the 80's. It never got as bad as Gordon Heights, but It was pretty rough there until the late 80's. But the mid 90's, it began a complete 360. Lots of young couples came in and bought out a lot of the rentals, and it is now a nice decent neighborhood. There were a LOT of boarded up houses and lots of rentals (section 8) there until the early 90's. I remember the shopping center where Island Recreational is was like a hellhole in the 80's. Now it's a decent shopping center, it's hard to believe how crappy it once was there.I live in Eagle Estates, have been there since 1997. It's always been a decent place in my experience, but my wife has been there since the mid-1980's and has said it went through a really bad phase for a while. You do occasionally see some sort of rough-looking people hanging out at that plaza, mostly around the laundromat, but it's not a bad plaza by any means. Medford Pastaria is quite upscale, though we prefer the 'za from La Margherita. My LIRR/NYCT blog |
