The EU has no moral center. They're Big Brother come to life; they just have no means to impose their will to the degree that they wish to. (The far right, however, has ideas on how to do that.) Which apparently doesn't extend to England that much (Imperalist!!) Every major European country has engaged in imperialism. Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, even Portugal, had empires. They are quite jealous of the British Empire because it covered a quarter of the planet's land surface at its height, and Britain didn't have to engage in the kind of bloody repression that they had to in order to build their empires. Spain is not the only country in the EU that's behaving like this, of course. |
